On the ole amazon I bought some essential fittings and hoses for a dust collection system. I enjoy Rockler and Woodcraft very much, don’t get me wrong, but I didn’t find it necessary to shell out the coin for their products in such a small shop as mine. Lessons learned: 1; Elbow fittings are unnecessary when you use flex hose 2; The local hardware store has far better quality hose clamps 3; Use the gift between your ears to generate some ingenuity before shelling out $40 on mounting brackets. I bet you that $40 you can come up with a free solution. 4; blast gates? In a small shop? For what? 5; those auto-switching relays sound like a great idea, but how much time will they really save you? Especially if you need to switch power cords every time you switch tools. Are you really going to wire up some way to bridge your vacuum power cord to all the other tools? Or put all of your power tools on a single circuit? Get real, accept that the whole world just aint wireless and whatever you do you’ll need to switch things around once in a while changing tools. 6; Take a few minutes and think through the process, draw things down if you need, sleep on it one night, I guarantee you can minimize costs and develop an essential system. Can’t catch ALL the dust!
